As part of her new cover story with Entertainment Weekly, Taylor discusses why she admires Lady Gaga’s career and aspires to be more like her.
“When people think she’s gonna go one way, she goes the exact opposite,” Taylor explains. “She did that Tony Bennett record and won a Grammy. And then she pivots and goes and wins a Golden Globe for American Horror Story: Hotel. And then she pivots and does Joanne. And then she pivots and wins an Oscar for A Star Is Born.”
Taylor adds, “That’s so cool, that ability to be so capable in so many different worlds. There’s so much dexterity to her career.”
Taylor’s not so bad at pivoting her own career. She started as a country star before going pop, and she’s about to star in the movie musical adaptation of Cats. Mother Monster would be proud.
