Axelle/Bauer-Griffin/FilmMagicThey may have married in an epic multi-ceremony celebration in India last December, but Priyanka Chopra Jonas says that when she first met Nick Jonas, she didn’t think she’d marry him at all.
At the 10th annual Women in the World Summit in New York City this week, the actress spoke about her initial impression of Nick.
“I’ve known him for two years,” Priyanka, who is 11 years Nick’s senior, said. “I didn’t think that this would be what it turned out to be, and that’s maybe that’s my fault, I judged a book by its cover.”
“He’s such an old soul, extremely smart, so good for me because he grounds me so much,” she continued. “I’m a wild child. I do whatever I want whenever I want and he always supports me.”
For example, she realized early on that he would never make her choose him over her career. To illustrate the point, she told the story of how they were once out with a group of friends, and she had a meeting to go to. She kept hinting to Nick that she’d cancel her meeting, but he didn’t bite.
Priyanka recalled, “Finally he took me aside and was like, ‘Look, I’m not stupid. I know what you’re trying to do. But I would never be the one who would tell you to cancel work because I know how hard you’ve worked to be where you are. So, if you could’ve canceled it, you would’ve done it. I’ll take our friends out for dinner. We’ll wait for you and you finish your meeting and come back.'”
“I was just like, ‘That’s the first time someone’s ever done that,'” she added.
