After Arianna Huffington introduced her, Katy took the podium to remark, “The goddess energy in this room is undeniable” — no surprise, given that the attendees included Professor Anita Hill, feminist icon Gloria Steinem, actress Julia Stiles and the sponsor of the awards, designer Diane Von Furstenberg.
“I just want to go off script a little bit and say how encouraged I am to be in a room full of wonderful women that want to be together to raise each other up,” Katy said.
She added, “Everyone in this room has the power to transform the lives of other women around them, through leadership, through camaraderie and through community.”
Katy also shared some words of wisdom: “Great change begins with yourself. You cannot help heal others without also being on a healing journey yourself.”
Content featuring Katy and the night’s other honorees will be available on YouTube later this spring via YouTube.com/DVF.
During Katy’s trip to New York City, she also took in the musical Wicked, and met the cast.
Meanwhile, you can see Katy this Sunday night on ABC’s American Idol, as the top 14 contestants sing for America’s vote.
