Michael Buckner/WireImageWhen John Mayer and Ed Sheeran both found themselves in Tokyo, Japan this week, they came together for a couple of special duets.
As the website Bandwagon reports, John performed in Tokyo on Wednesday night — because Tokyo is 13 hours ahead of East Coast time — and Ed joined him onstage for two numbers: John’s song “Belief” and Ed’s own smash “Thinking Out Loud.” According to the website, Ed happened to have played in Tokyo the previous night.
“Every once in a while, we run into our friends on the road, and it makes the whole tour worthwhile, spiritually,” John told the audience.
“I’ve gotten the chance to get to know this gentleman fairly well, and he’s a lovely, lovely guy, one of the most talented artists I know in my life,” John continued. “And he’s graced us here with his presence tonight. Please welcome my friend, Ed Sheeran!”
Of course, the audience went wild. You can watch fan-shot video of both performances on YouTube.
John and Ed have performed together before: In 2015, for example, they did Ed’s song “Don’t” on The Late Late Show.
Ed’s tour continues in Hong Kong on Thursday. Meanwhile, the Tokyo show was John’s last in Asia. His next solo show is July 19 in Albany, NY. However, starting May 31, he’ll be touring the U.S. with his side band, Dead & Company.
