John Mayer-inspired TV show “Heart of Life” casts two of its stars

ABC/Randy HolmesThe John Mayer-inspired TV show Heart of Life has found two of its stars.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Shadowhunters and Glee actor Harry Shum Jr. and How to Get Away with Murder actress Katie Findlay have been cast in the ABC drama.

The show, loosely inspired by John’s 2006 song “The Heart of Life,” is about two sets of adult siblings who find out they’re related through their father.  That revelation leads them to reexamine their lives and everything they thought they knew about their childhoods.

Shum and Findlay will play siblings Brendan and Sydney Winter. Brendan is described as a “self-centered world traveler” who gets by on his father’s money, while Sydney is described as an “ambitious, caring and awkward” type-A personality who works at her father’s architecture firm.

John Mayer will serve as an executive producer on the series.

The inspiration for the show seems to come from the song’s theme, which is expressed in the chorus: “Pain throws your heart to the ground/Love turns the whole thing around/No it won’t all go the way it should/But I know the heart of life is good.”

Meanwhile, John kicks off his latest tour March 23 in New Zealand; it’ll arrive in North America on July 19.  His latest single is “I Guess I Just Feel Like.”
