Demi Lovato looked happy and healthy Tuesday on Instagram when she posted a funny video of herself and her boxing trainer, revealing she’d accidentally knocked out one of his teeth. But it turns out the singer returned to a treatment facility recently — though not because she’s relapsed.
After overdosing in July of 2018, Demi went to rehab for several months, checking out in November. In late January, she celebrated six months of sobriety. But a source close to Demi tells People that she checked into a treatment facility of her own volition, in order to “continue working on her health.”
“She has not relapsed since she overdosed,” explained the source. “It was one trip to a treatment facility for a few weeks outside of Los Angeles.”
Back in August, when Demi addressed fans for the first time since her overdose, she admitted that staying sober is a lifelong struggle for her. “What I’ve learned is that this illness is not something that disappears or fades with time,” she wrote then. “It is something I must continue to overcome.”
Now that she’s returned to L.A., the source dishes to People that Demi is “taking care of herself and is in a positive place,” and is also “working out and getting back in the studio to make music.”
In February, Demi was up for a Grammy for her duet with Christina Aguilera, “Fall in Line,” but they lost to Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper‘s “Shallow.”
