Janice Freeman, former 'The Voice' contestant, dead at 33

Paul Drinkwater/NBCJanice Freeman, whose powerful rendition of the Imagine Dragons song “Radioactive” rocked the house during her season 13 audition for The Voice, has died at age 33.

Freeman, a cancer survivor, passed away unexpectedly Saturday at her home in Pasadena, California from “an extreme case of pneumonia and a blood clot that traveled to her heart,” according to a post on Freeman’s Twitter.

Freeman’s 2017 audition moved coaches Miley Cyrus and Jennifer Hudson to turn their chairs around, but it was Miley that Freeman chose.  Though Freeman was knocked out of competition after the live performances, she and Miley remained friends and kept in touch since.  Miley even helped Freeman financially when the latter and her family were having difficulties with living arrangements.

Miley posted an image of a rainbow on her Instagram story in reaction to the news of Freeman’s death, writing, “Thank you @janicefreeman…for everything.  This represents you perfectly.”

“the voice of hers we got to hear and the bit of life we got to watch her live was a blessing and inspiration to us all!” Jennifer Hudson wrote on Instagram.  “My heart and prayers go out to @janicefreeman daughter and family!”
