Speaking to Variety about the movie version of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musical, Elba said, “Taylor was great. Her and I had a lot of work to do together, and she was amazing. She worked hard and was just happy to be there.”
As previously reported, in the film, the British actor will play Macavity, the “Mystery Cat,” while Taylor will play the flirty Bombalurina, who’s interested in Macavity. Elba said he’d never actually seen Cats before he joined the cast, but notes, “It was really liberating. It was so much fun playing that big…character.”
In January, Elba told Access Hollywood that Taylor was a “good girl” and a “great artist,” and said he’d like to do a musical collaboration with her one day.
Cats, which also stars Jennifer Hudson, Ian McKellan, Rebel Wilson, James Corden and Judi Dench, will be in theaters December 20.
