Do you need more? “Shallow” finally hits #1 in post-Oscar sales surge

ABC/Ed HerreraI’ll tell you something, boy: Lady Gaga has just scored her first #1 hit since 2011.

Following its win for Best Original Song at the Academy Awards last month, “Shallow” by Gaga and Bradley Cooper has finally ascended to the top spot on the Billboard Hot 100.  This is Gaga’s fourth #1 overall, and her first since 2011’s “Born This Way.”

With “Shallow”‘s ascent, Gaga ends the longest gap between Hot 100 number ones — nearly eight years — since Beyonce, who had to wait just under nine years between “Single Ladies” and her Ed Sheeran duet, “Perfect.”

“Shallow” is now the top-charting Oscar-winning tune since Eminem’s “Lose Yourself,” from Eight Mile, back in 2002.  It’s the first #1 Best Original Song winner that’s a duet since Regina Belle and Peabo Bryson‘s “A Whole New World,” from Aladdin, which topped the chart in 1993.

Finally, “Shallow” is the 19th Oscar-winning tune to hit #1.  One of those 19 was Barbra Streisand’s “Evergreen,” the theme from the 1976 version of A Star Is Born.
