Domenic Haynes auditions; Tyler Golden/NBCOn Tuesday night’s The Voice, Adam Levine and John Legend blocked each other, while Kelly Clarkson and Blake Shelton added one artist each.
The show began with a block: Adam used his to keep John from snagging the show’s first performer, Domenic Haynes. The 18-year-old former track athlete performed a raspy rendition of Leon Bridges‘ “River.” Adam was so taken by Domenic he told him ,”you might be my favorite singer in all 16 seasons of this show.”
The night ended with 25-year-old Julian King‘s performance of Jon Bellion‘s “All Time Low,” which not only got the crowd moving, it got John to block Adam “a millisecond” after he turned his chair, as Adam remembers. All out of choices, the Philly native joined John’s team.
Here are the rest of Monday night’s highlights:
Memphis native Savannah Brister, 17, auditioned with Stevie Wonder‘s “Don’t You Worry ‘Bout a Thing.” John pointed out that even though he “and a thousand other people” have covered Stevie’s indelible classic “you really put your own stamp on the song.” Savannah chose John over Kelly.
The Bundys are siblings, and the first ever trio featured on The Voice. Their performance of “Closer to Fine,” by The Indigo Girls, got Blake and Kelly to turn chairs. The trio chose Kelly, who also mentioned one of their favorite artists, the late torch singer and pianist Eva Cassidy.
Twenty-year-old Klea Olson had only sang at church and retirement facilities prior to The Voice. Unfortunately, she couldn’t convince a coach to turn their chair, but they offered her words of encouragement to come back and try again.
Texan Hannah Kay, 18, is a dedicated musician who even wrote a song dedicated to her best friend, who died tragically in a car accident. Hannah performed the Loretta Lynn classic “Coal Miner’s Daughter.” Ultimately, Hannah picked Blake over Kelly, admitting she’s had a crush on him since she was six.
The Voice returns Monday, March 4 at 8:00 ET/7:00 CT on NBC.
