Recently, accessories by Gucci and Prada were removed from shelves over concerns that their designs too closely resembled offensive “blackface” imagery. Now Katy Perry‘s shoe line is reportedly pulling some of its designs over similar issues.
According to TMZ, two of Katy’s shoe designs — the “Rue Face Slip-On Loafer” and the “Ora Face Block Heel Sandal” — are being removed from stores because the black version, which is decorated with features two eyes, a nose and full red lips, resembles blackface.
Sources tell TMZ that of course, the shoes were never intended to offend anyone, but add, “In order to be respectful and sensitive the team is in the process of pulling the shoes.”
Katy appeared at the Grammy Awards Sunday night as part of a tribute performance to one of her personal idols, Dolly Parton. She and the night’s big winner, Kacey Musgraves, sang Dolly’s hit “Here You Come Again,” and the country legend joined them onstage for the performance.
