“Meant to Be” in “The Middle” of “Electricity”: Grammy nominees Dua, Bebe & Maren sound off

Jeff Kravitz/BBMA18/FilmMagicThe Grammys are this Sunday night, and some of this year’s nominees are sharing their thoughts on being considered for music’s highest honor.

–British star Dua Lipa‘s up for two awards this Sunday: Best New Artist and Best Dance Recording, for her Silk City collabo “Electricity.” She tells ABC Radio that being nominated for a huge American award is “very special.”

“Your dream as an artist is to try and get your music out to as many people as possible,” she says. “And to get the recognition in a place as big as America, at an awards [show] like the Grammys, means a lot.”

Dua’s also “grateful” to be representing the U.K. and her parents’ home country of Kosovo, where she says her nominations are “quite a big deal.”

–Bebe Rexha is also up for Best New Artist, as well as Best Country Duo/Group Performance for her Florida Georgia Line collabo, “Meant to Be.” Bebe says for her, the nominations are enough.

“That, to me, is the biggest accomplishment,” she tells ABC Radio. “I don’t need the Grammy sitting in my house. It would look pretty….but it won’t make or break me. The nomination is more than anything I could ask for.”

–Like “Meant to Be,” “The Middle” is hit that features pop and country performers: Maren Morris, Zedd and Grey. The song’s nominated for Record and Song of the Year, as well as Best Pop/Duo Group Performance. Maren says that makes up for the flak she got for recording it.

“For all the naysayers and the people that wanted to slap me on the wrist for doing a pop song, well, now I’m one of the only people…in both pop and country categories,” she points out. “So I feel like the risk paid off.”
