ABC/Mitch HaasethShawn Mendes, Lady Gaga, Pink, Katy Perry, Kelly Clarkson and Maroon 5 are among the many acts who’ve pledged to support a new initiative designed to expand opportunities for female producers and engineers.
The initiative, launched by the Recording Academy’s Task Force on Diversity and Inclusion, asks that anybody, or any company, who is “responsible for or involved in selecting and hiring producers and engineers to commit to making hiring decisions only after considering a slate of candidates that includes at least two women.”
According to a study conducted by USC Annenberg in 2018, women make up only two percent of producers and three percent of engineers/mixers in popular music.
Other artists who’ve signed the initiative include Justin Bieber, Colbie Caillat, Alessia Cara, Cardi B, Gloria Estefan, Selena Gomez, Halsey, Alicia Keys, John Legend, Maren Morris, The Chainsmokers, WALK THE MOON and dozens more.
