ABC/Randy HolmesBack in 2006, John Mayer released a song called “The Heart of Life” on his album Continuum. Now, Deadline reports that a TV drama called Heart of Life, inspired by the song, has been picked up by ABC.
The show had its origins with Melvin Mar, the executive producer of ABC’s Fresh Off the Boat and Speechless, who’s friendly with John. It’s about two sets of adult siblings who find out they’re related through their father, which leads them to reexamine their lives and everything they thought they knew about their childhoods.
According to Deadline, the siblings will try to “overcome the sins of the past” while they “learn the joys of reuniting with long-lost family.” John will be one of the show’s executive producers.
It’s not clear exactly how the song inspired the show, because the lyrics don’t tell a story. It seems the inspiration comes more from the song’s theme, which is expressed in the chorus: “Pain throws your heart to the ground/Love turns the whole thing around/No it won’t all go the way it should/But I know the heart of life is good.”
