Atlantic RecordsEd Sheeran‘s “Shape of You” has set any number of sales and chart milestones, and now it’s just reached another.
The song has been certified Diamond for sales and streams of more than 10 million units. He’s only the fourth artist to have more than one Diamond-certified song since the Recording Industry Association of America invented the certification 20 years ago. His other Diamond-certified track? “Thinking Out Loud.”
“My song Shape Of You is now diamond in the US!,” Ed wrote on Instagram. “Thanks to everyone who’s downloaded or streamed it x.”
“Shape of You” debuted at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in January of 2017 and spent 12 weeks at #1. It also stayed in the top 10 for a record 33 straight weeks.
In other Ed Sheeran news, he gave a surprise performance last night at an event in Anaheim, CA ahead of the annual National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM) Conference. The performance marked the launch of his new line of signature acoustic guitars, created in collaboration with the Irish guitar company Lowden.
Ed’s Divide world stadium tour resumes later this month.
