Dennis LeupoldFormer president Barack Obama has shared a list of his favorite songs of 2018, and it shows that he’s been listening to all kinds of music, including some of the year’s biggest hits.
Cardi B‘s #1 smash “I Like It,” featuring Bad Bunny and J Balvin, was one of the more than 20 songs Obama chose. His list also includes Normani and Khalid’s hit duet “Love Lies,” Hozier‘s new song “Nina Cried Power,” and “Apes**t,” by Beyoncé and her husband, JAY-Z.
Also on Obama’s list: Prince‘s “Mary Don’t You Weep,” from the archival album Piano & A Microphone 1983, released this year.
Songs by Janelle Monae, Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter Brandi Carlile, and Chance the Rapper also made the list.
Obama writes in an Instagram post that the songs he chose are the ones he found the “most thought-provoking, inspiring, or just plain loved.” He adds that making such a list “gives me a chance to highlight talented…artists…some who are household names and others who you may not have heard of before.”
If you’re interested, the former commander-in-chief also listed his favorite movies of the year, which included Black Panther, Eighth Grade, Annihilation, BlacKkKlansman and the Mr. Rogers documentary Won’t You Be My Neighbor.
