Halsey on “The Voice” in May 2018; Trae Patton/NBCHalsey is clapping back at those who found her performance on last night’s The Voice finale to be “disgusting.”
Halsey performed “Without Me” as a contemporary dance number with dancer Jade Chynoweth alongside her, and and at one point, they embraced. After someone tweeted, “Disgusting. Done with the voice after this BS,” Halsey sarcastically responded, “I too find hugs DISGUSTING !!!”
Prior to that, Halsey tweeted, “Very proud of the emotional performance i did with @JadeChynoweth on @NBCTheVoice tonight. And also very proud to have p***** off the homophobic viewers at home who missed the message. Thanks for watching.”
The singer then added, “Representation matters. Thanks @NBCTheVoice for giving a space for this vision to come to life. and thank you @JadeChynoweth for being an incredible human who used her body like the ultimate instrument for this collaboration.”
As for the woman who deemed the performance “disgusting,” she attempted to defend herself by writing, “Her performance was not appropriate for a show that caters to families and children. I don’t give a rats a** whether she’s gay, straight, bi, whatever.”
Halsey fans then responded by tweeting photos of sexually suggestive routines performed on Dancing with the Stars and during the Olympics — both telecasts that ostensibly cater to “families and children” — by male/female couples wearing revealing outfits.
Halsey responded to a picture of Olympic ice dancers by tweeting, “This made me choke in laughter. love is love, baby. And jade, the dancer accompanying me is as much of an athlete as these two rock on.”
As of early Wednesday afternoon, Halsey’s performance hadn’t been posted online by NBC.
