Brian ZiffShawn Mendes is spilling all the tea in his new cover story for Rolling Stone.
First of all, remember those rumors that he and Hailey Baldwin were dating, before she got engaged to Justin Bieber? Both of them insisted they were just friends but apparently, that was a lie.
According to Rolling Stone, Shawn “acknowledges that they were more than friends,” but won’t actually say they were dating.
“I don’t even wanna put a title on it. I think it was more of a zone of limbo,” he says.
Shawn tells Rolling Stone, “In the back of my heart, I feel like I need to be seen with someone — like a girl — in public, to prove to people that I’m not gay. Even though in my heart I know that it’s not a bad thing. There’s still a piece of me that thinks that. And I hate that side of me.”
Rumors that Shawn is gay have been swirling for years, even though he’s denied it and has told fans that it shouldn’t matter even if he were. He reveals that he freaked out after he allowed his friend Taylor Swift to post a photo of them together which was taken after Taylor put her glittery makeup on his face.”
“I felt sick,” he admits. “I was like, ‘F**k, why did I let her post that?’ I just fed the fire that I’m terrified of.”
But now, Shawn says he’s glad he allowed Taylor to post the shot. “Maybe I am a little more feminine — but that’s the way it is,” he says. “That’s why I am me.”
And for his final revelation? The 20-year-old admits, “I love weed…it’s really good for me. When I’m home, I’ll smoke and then play guitar for seven hours.”
