ABC/Paula LoboThe Chainsmokers‘ song “Paris” was inspired by a friend of the duo’s Drew Taggart, who was struggling with a drug addiction. Now, the song is being turned into a movie.
In a Facebook message last year, Drew and Alex Pall explained that when they wrote the song, “We used Paris as a metaphor to convey that [the friend] felt like he was in a place where everything was fine, while being acutely aware of other people’s concern for him…the song is about escaping your reality…[and] being somewhere else with someone else.”
According to The Hollywood Reporter, The Chainsmokers are developing a feature film based on the song, with Mickey Rapkin, who wrote the book that inspired the Pitch Perfect movies, set to write the script. Drew and Alex are producing the movie through their new Kick the Habit Productions company.
It’s not clear if the movie version of “Paris” will match the story behind the song.
In a statement, Drew and Alex said, “We are beyond thrilled to have launched Kick The Habit Productions as we continue to bridge the gap between our overall artistic vision, the entertainment industry as a whole and our fans.”
They add, “The age of being only a musician is over and we’re excited to go all-in on this venture to curate, produce and create meaningful projects.”
