Kelly Clarkson on her “outrageous” UglyDolls character: “It's like she was written for me”

Vincent PetersKelly Clarkson will make her animated movie debut next May, voicing the lead character in the upcoming movie, UglyDolls.  And she tells USA Today that her character is exactly like her.

UglyDolls, based on the popular stuffed toys of the same name, stars Kelly as Moxy, a pink creature with three teeth at the top of her mouth and none on the bottom. “Moxy could not be more perfect for me. Because I’m not really that [princess] girl. I’m really this girl,” says Kelly.

“Moxy’s personality is like 100 percent me. It’s not acting. It’s weird, it’s like she was written for me,” Kelly adds. “Moxy is outrageous, I’m outrageous.”

In the movie, Moxy and her pals live in Uglyville, where weirdness is celebrated.  When she and her friends go out to explore the world, they find a town called Perfection, where dolls are trained to behave in a certain way in hopes of winning a human child’s love.

Kelly says that the movie is “a giant metaphor on life,” adding, “We all come in different shapes, sizes and personalities, but with our own individuality.”

The first UglyDolls trailer drops on Thursday.  The movie, with a voice cast that includes Blake Shelton, Pitbull, Wanda Sykes and Nick Jonas, arrives May 10, 2019.
