Ellie Goulding returns with “Close to Me”

Conor McDonnell As promised, Ellie Goulding has released her new single “Close to Me,” a collaboration with Diplo and Swae Lee from Rae Sremmurd.

In the new bop, whose melody is reminiscent of Post Malone‘s “Psycho” in parts,  Ellie sings about wanting to always be with her significant other, because they’re so much alike.

“I don’t wanna be somebody without your body/Close to me/And if it wasn’t you, I wouldn’t want anybody
Close to me/‘Cause I’m an animal/like you/And I don’t wanna be somebody without your body/Close to me,” she sings.  The “animal” lyrics are presumably why the single artwork consists of leopard spots.

Ellie and Diplo collaborated three years ago on the song “Powerful,” for Major Lazer‘s album Peace Is the Mission.  Her last album, Delirium, came out in 2015; since then she’s released a few one-off singles.
