Kelly Clarkson says she'll sing “songs that I probably shouldn't” on her new tour

Adrian Edwards/GC ImagesThe last few times Kelly Clarkson has gone on tour, she’s taken fan requests from the audience and ended up performing songs by everyone from Eminem and Rihanna, to Imagine Dragons and Taylor Swift.  But on her upcoming Meaning of Life tour, Kelly says she’ll be doing things a bit differently.

“We’re switching it up this year on tour and I’m covering all these artists that inspired me to make music, or new songs that came out that really inspired me to keep going,” Kelly tells Marie Claire magazine. “It’s really about inspiration this year.”

She laughs, “My point with that is that I’m going to be covering songs that I probably shouldn’t, but I’m going to do it anyway!”

Kelly’s Meaning of Life tour — her first in three years — kicks off January 24 in Oakland, CA; tickets are on sale now.  Later in 2019, she’ll debut her own talk show on NBC.  Kelly says she’s learned a thing or two from being on the other side of the desk that she plans to apply to that new job.

“I don’t want that kind of show, where we’re pushing people just to make a headline,” she explains. “I don’t ever want to make someone uncomfortable. I want people’s voices to be heard. I’ve just been on the receiving end of that a lot.”

She adds, “I just want quality, and I want heart, and I want humor, and that’s all.”
