GC ImagesA week after the tragic death of her ex-boyfriend Mac Miller, Ariana Grande has broken her silence by posting a tribute to him on Instagram.
Ariana posted a brief video clip of Mac telling a story, and then promising to tell Ariana the story as many times as she wants. “It makes me happy,” she giggles.
She captioned the video, “i adored you from the day i met you when i was nineteen and i always will. i can’t believe you aren’t here anymore. i really can’t wrap my head around it. we talked about this. so many times. i’m so mad, i’m so sad i don’t know what to do.”
Ariana continued, “you were my dearest friend. for so long. above anything else. i’m so sorry i couldn’t fix or take your pain away. i really wanted to. the kindest, sweetest soul with demons he never deserved. i hope you’re okay now. rest.”
Ariana dated Mac, featured on her hit “The Way,” for at least two years; the two split this past spring. Not long afterwards, Mac was in a car accident and was subsequently arrested for DUI. When one fan accused her of exacerbating the rapper’s substance abuse, she posted a lengthy response in which she took the fan to task.
“How absurd that you minimize female self-respect and self-worth by saying someone should stay in a toxic relationship…I am not a babysitter or a mother and no woman should feel that they need to be,” she wrote.
“I have cared for him and tried to support his sobriety…but shaming/blaming women for a man’s inability to keep his s*** together is a very major problem,” she added. “Let’s please stop doing that.”
Ariana is now engaged to Saturday Night Live star Pete Davidson.
