Mariano VivancoThere have been big changes in Selena Gomez‘s life over the past year, and we’re not just talking about her kidney transplant or love life.
In a new cover story for Elle magazine, Selena says she moved to Orange County, CA because, she says, “L.A.’s just gotten really claustrophobic for me. I can’t do any of the things I do here in L.A. It’s just impossible.”
She says her life has been “majorly downsized,” adding, “I’m going back to simplicity. It’s me saying, ‘I’m exactly where I am. And I’m so happy I’m in this place.’”
The most-followed person on Instagram further reveals, “I’m not on the internet. I haven’t been on the internet in months. I don’t have my password for Instagram. I have no apps on my phone, no photo editing apps.” When she needs to update Instagram, she says, she accesses it from her friend’s phone.
Selena also reveals that she’s been volunteering five days a week at A21, a global anti–human-trafficking nonprofit in Southern California. She met the organization’s co-founder in church and was invited to visit and learn about their mission.
“The idea of human trafficking to me is…I’m flabbergasted…I can’t be silent about this,” Selena tells Elle. She admits she’s kept it on the down low until now because “it’s out of my comfort zone. I needed to be fully immersed in it.”
Selena also tells Elle she’s reached out to Demi Lovato, her friend since she was seven, following Lovato’s recent overdose. As for her role in the Woody Allen movie A Rainy Day in New York, which she’s been criticized for accepting because of longtime sex assault allegations against Allen, Selena won’t comment, saying when asked, “I think it’s best not to.”
