“Cats,” starring Taylor Swift, to slink into theaters December 2019

Mert & MarcusTaylor Swift‘s Christmas gift to her fans next year will be her next movie role.

Variety reports that Cats, the big-screen adaptation of the long-running Andrew Lloyd Webber musical, will arrive in theaters December 20, 2019.

In addition to Taylor, the movie’s cast also includes Jennifer Hudson, James Corden and Ian McKellen, but it’s unclear who will be playing which role.  Tom Hooper, who won an Oscar for directing The King’s Speech, will be behind the camera and, Variety reports, the film will be choreographed by movement pioneer Wayne McGregor.

Variety reports that Cats will be going up against Star Wars: Episode IX at the box office.

Cats, which ran on Broadway from 1987 to 2006, tells the story of a tribe of cats who meet each year to decide which one of them will ascend to heaven and begin a new life.

Taylor’s movie credits so far haven’t been very extensive.  She voiced one of the main characters in the 2012 animated movie The Lorax, and played a supporting role in the 2014 movie adaptation of the young adult novel The Giver.
