Ariana Grande paid tribute to Aretha Franklin Friday at the Queen of Soul’s funeral in Detroit.
Wearing a short black dress and her signature high ponytail, Ari sang “(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman” — the same tune she’d performed on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon the week Aretha passed away. It was that performance that led Aretha’s family to invite her to perform at the funeral.
After Ariana sang at the funeral, Bishop Charles H. Ellis III made a joke that didn’t sit well with her fans.
“I have to brush up,” he said, “My 28-year-old daughter tells me, ‘Dad, you are old at 60.’ When I saw Ariana Grande on the program I thought that was a new something at Taco Bell!”
Following her performance, Ariana said, “We love you, Aretha.” Her fiance Pete Davidson watched from the audience. Prior to the beginning of the service, Ariana was seen speaking and posing for photos with Hilary Clinton.
