Stewart GerardOneRepublic just wants some “Connection” in the video for their new single.
The clip was shot in The Oculus in New York City, an architecturally stunning shopping and transportation hub. The video starts in black-and-white, as Ryan Tedder wanders around the structure through crowds of people in suits looking down at their hands as if they are phones.
“Tryin’ to disconnect, thinking maybe you could show me/ If there’s so many people here, then why am I so lonely?” he sings.
Suddenly, a woman appears in the crowd and starts to dance. Ryan notices her and tries to make his way to her but keeps losing her in the sea of people.
When the song’s chorus kicks in, the video turns to color as we see the band performing in the middle of The Oculus surrounded by cheering fans.
At the end of the video, things are back to black-and-white. Ryan and the dancing woman spot each other, and she turns from black and white to color.
