Why audition for “American Idol?” Just ask contestant Noah “Wig” Davis, aka Alpaca Boy

ABC/Adam RoseOn Saturday, August 25, auditions for season two of ABC’s American Idol get underway in Orlando, FL and San Diego, CA before heading across the country. But even contestants who don’t make it to the top 24 can still build a career on their notoriety — like Noah Davis, for example.

Noah’s the contestant who shared that viral “wig” moment with Katy Perry last season, and was gifted with his very own alpaca on the show’s finale.  Now, he’s moving to L.A. to explore opportunities, and is urging people to either audition in person or online. He’s also got some very practical advice.

“Make sure you sing something that shows off your voice and what you can do,” he tells ABC Radio. “But on a whole other level, walk in with confidence and poise…I think that’s something a lot of people don’t realize. If you are confident, if you give them something to remember, you’re more likely to go on to another round.”

“If you get a ‘yes,’ great, if you get a ‘no,’ try again,” he adds. “And I think a lot of people come in with the headspace of, ‘I wanna win the whole thing.’ Take it one step at a time.”

As for Noah’s alpaca, Laurel, he says she’s “living her best life” with other alpacas on a farm in New York State, because herd animals like that can’t live alone.  “I get updates and stuff on her,” he says.

And Noah says people are still talking about the “wig” moment.

“My Facebook inbox right now is probably 90% people asking, ‘What does wig mean?'” he laughs, adding that he thinks that moment “made me — I guess — relatable.”

“I look back on that now and think, how funny that this all happened over the word ‘wig.'”
