Elle von Unwerth/WHAT A MUSIC LTD/PARLOPHONE/BIG BEAT/ATLANTICDavid Guetta‘s upcoming album, 7, is jam-packed with big names, including Sia, Justin Bieber, Bebe Rexha, Jason Derulo, G-Eazy, J. Balvin and Nicki Minaj. But the French DJ/producer says that’s because his creative process allows him to pretty much work with anyone he wants to.
“What’s amazing about what I do, being a producer, is when you’re a singer you have your own limitation — your range, [or] you’re a male or female — whereas when I create music I’m totally free,” David tells ABC Radio.
The album, which is now available for pre-order, features David re-teaming with some artists who he’s already had success with, such as his “Hey Mama” collaborators Nicki Minaj and Bebe Rexha, and Sia, who’s previously joined David for “Titanium,” “She Wolf,” “Helium” and “Bang Your Head.” She appears on two tracks on 7: “Flames” and “Light Headed”
“Honestly, I think she’s just being loyal to me because we had amazing success together,” David says of his ongoing collaborations with the “Cheap Thrills” singer. “We just love working together, but she’s just so talented and I feel very honored that she keeps making all those records with me!”
But when he and Sia work together in the studio, does she wear her famous black-and-white bob wig that completely obscures her face?
David laughs, “Of course not!”
Two songs from the album — “Goodbye” featuring Jason Derulo, Nicki and Willy William, and “Drive,” featuring South African deejay Black Coffee — are out on Friday.
