Halsey skipped the VMAs due to lack of nominations; is she back together with G-Eazy?

ABC/Paula LoboHalsey’s long been a staple at the MTV Video Music Awards, but Monday night’s ceremony came and went without an appearance by the “Bad at Love” star.  Turns out she made a conscious decision not to attend.

Asked by a fan on Twitter why she wasn’t at the VMAs, Halsey replied, “bc I directed all my own music videos this album just to have @MTV#wcw‘ me to death and not nominate me for anything so it didn’t feel right to go. I’m happy you guys liked the videos. That’s all that matters to me.”

The elaborate videos that Halsey created for the songs from her album hopeless fountain kingdom include “Bad at Love,” “Now or Never,” “Strangers” and “Alone.”  They tell a gender-reversed Romeo + Juliet story, with visuals inspired by director Baz Luhrmann.

Meanwhile, TMZ reports that Halsey and her boyfriend and duet partner G-Eazy may be back together.  The gossip site has a photo of the two holding hands while leaving a VMA after-party at around 4:30 a.m.

In July, Halsey announced the couple’s split after a year of dating by posting a note on her Instagram story reading, “I normally keep this kind of thing private but provided our public nature I feel the need to inform my fans. G-Eazy and I are taking some time apart… I wish him the best.”
