ABC/Fred LeeThey may be a on a break, but that doesn’t mean the guys of One Direction can’t celebrate the group’s anniversary.
This weekend, the band’s Twitter page began posting for the first time in over a year in commemoration of the date on which they were formed. The page posted, “A whole lotta history… this Monday is an important anniversary for the guys, it’s been #8YearsofOneDirection.”
On Monday morning, the page started tweeting lyrics from some popular 1D songs including, “That’s What Make You Beautiful,” “Best Song Ever,” and “History.”
1D was formed in July of 2010 during the “bootcamp” phase of The X Factor U.K. After conquering the pop music world and going from a five-piece to a quartet, they took a hiatus in 2016 to pursue solo projects.
Liam Payne, Louis Tomlinson and Niall Horan shared tweets of their own on Monday in celebration of the anniversary:
“#8YearsOfOneDirection what an incredible 8 years it’s been with my brothers!” Liam wrote. “Thank you to all the fans that are still supporting and following our journeys.”
“#8YearsOfOneDirection Where has the time gone!? Thank you so much to every single person who’s ever supported us. Big love!” Louis posted.
He also cheekily added, “And remember if it’s by one direction and it’s a banger I probably wrote on it.”
Niall shared, “#8YearsfOneDirection Wow! 8 years of amazing memories with the lads . Thank you so much for standing by us for all this time.”
Liam is planning to release his solo album this fall. Niall’s on a world tour, while Harry Styles just wrapped his up. Louis has been tapped to judge the U.K. version of X Factor, and former member Zayn Malik is prepping the release of his sophomore album.
