In addition to scoring huge hits with her own songs “New Rules” and “IDGAF,” Dua Lipa has also racked up a bonus hit with “One Kiss,” a single she recorded with Calvin Harris that recently became her second U.K. number-one hit. Dua says the collabo was all Calvin’s idea.
“Calvin really kinda reached out to me and he was like, ‘Oh, are you gonna come to L.A. any time soon? We should work in the studio together,'” Dua tells ABC Radio. “And I was like, ‘I’d absolutely love that. I’m touring and I’ll be in L.A. on these days.’ And I just went down to the studio and that’s what we did.”
The song, written by Calvin, Dua and Jessie Reyez, topped the charts in the U.K. for eight straight weeks, becoming the longest-running number-one hit by a lead female artist on the British charts this decade.
Between “One Kiss” and the songs on her debut album, which came out a year ago, Dua isn’t having any problem staying on the charts, but she says she’s already working on her next album, even as she tours the world.
“I’ve been writing quite a bit and I’m excited for that,” she tells ABC Radio. “But I’m still kinda finishing up this whole round first.”
The British singer finishes up her latest round of U.S. dates on July 2 and then heads overseas for a run of festivals and a date supporting Bruno Mars.
She’ll be back at the end of July/beginning of August for New York’s Panorama Festival, Chicago’s Lollapalooza and Montreal’s Osheaga Festival before heading back overseas for even more festivals. Her last scheduled date of 2018 is in Connecticut in September.
