TAS Rights ManagementThe first U.K. show of Taylor Swift’s Reputation world tour took place on Friday in Manchester, England. Before performing “Dancing with Our Hands Tied,” Taylor made a speech recognizing the May 22, 2017 terrorist bombing that killed 22 people outside an Ariana Grande concert in that city.
According to the BBC, Taylor told the crowd, “Concerts are supposed to be about innocence, and about joy and about excitement. And what happened just over a year ago in this city was an attempt to steal that innocence.”
She then continued her speech, which was captured by a fan’s video.
“You’ve shown that you’re never gonna let anyone forget about those victims,” she told the crowd. “And you’ve shown that you have such incredible resilience to keep dancing and to keep the innocence and to keep the joy and to keep the joy. And I just want to say, Manchester, it is such an honor to play for you tonight.”
The crowd cheered wildly at Taylor’s comments.
