Thursday night was the last episode of “The Late Late Shawn” — that is The Late Late Show with Shawn Mendes as the special guest.
Mendes closed out his weeklong residency at the late-night talk show with a moving performance of “Perfectly Wrong,” off his new self-titled album.
Before his performance, James Corden cut to Mendes’ dressing room, which was jokingly covered in all Canadian themed decor, including the flag, moose antlers, and a fully-dressed Canadian police officer.
The night before, Mendes performed a duet with Julia Michaels but also appeared in a sketch with Corden. In the bit, Corden and Mendes pretended to be dueling subway performers. It started with Corden singing James Blunt‘s “You’re Beautiful,” but Mendes interrupted him playing Oasis‘ “Wonderwall.”
Eventually, the two kept uping the stakes by including a piano, a DJ turn table, and a full choir. Mendes ultimately wins the duel by descending from the ceiling, singing his own song “There’s Nothing Holdin’ Me Back.”
Mendes took to Instagram to commemorate the week at The Late Late Show with a still image from his debut TV performance of “Perfectly Wrong.”
“Thank you @latelateshow @JKCorden for such a wonderful week,” he wrote.
