Joseph LlanesA Great Big World released their new single “Younger” Friday morning, and now the Grammy-winning pop duo have announced details of their upcoming third album.
The self-titled album marks the first time that Ian Axel and Chad King recorded an album with a live band, in order to capture the excitement of their live shows. In a statement, Chad says, “We kind of feel like this is an arrival moment for us.”
Ian adds, “We made this record with our friends and our band, who have been playing with us for years. We just made the stuff that moved us without trying to be anything but us.”
The nostalgic track “Younger” finds the duo looking back at a more innocent time, when they were just kids playing Mario Brothers. “Where did all that magic go?” they sing. Another song on the album, “Save Me from Myself,” is about Ian’s struggle with O.C.D, while “You” is about his son.
“This Is Magic” is a song Chad, who’s openly gay, wrote about falling in love for the first time. Another song, “Hooray for You,” features audio from the legendary 1990 documentary Paris Is Burning, about New York City drag ball culture.
A Great Big World will perform “Younger” on Live with Kelly and Ryan on May 16.
