Sarah PiantadosiWith one more week to go before the release of his new album Electric Light, James Bay has released a new song called “Slide.”
The piano-driven ballad is the final track on the album and conveys the emotions of loneliness and craving connection. James has also released a live music video for the song.
“’Slide’ was the last song written for the new album and it felt like a natural closer,” James says in a statement. “Although it’s tone is sad and heavy, it’s essentially about connection — a theme which, with hindsight, this album is really hinged on — and hope, despite the fact it doesn’t always work out.”
He adds, “I guess it goes back to the nature of why I love songwriting — because a song promises the possibility of connection with other people — so we chase those flashes of creativity even when they sometimes lead us astray.”
James will perform on The Ellen DeGeneres Show on May 16. His album, Electric Light, comes out May 18.
