Matthew BrookesEver since One Direction went on hiatus, all the members have enjoyed solo success. While that solo success will likely never surpass what 1D managed to accomplish, Liam Payne says one way they could possibly top it is for them all to reunite for one big show that would mix their solo material and their group hits.
“The only way we could get any bigger is to throw one massive concert where it’s basically all of us versus each other, but we’re still in a band,” Liam tells #legend magazine. “So, if we all went like, ‘Hang on a minute boys, just going to throw this in’ and bang, on comes [Niall Horan‘s] ‘Slow Hands’ and we’re all just popping along — that would be the most fun s**t ever.”
While Liam wants to make this dream concert a reality, right now, he’s focused on his solo career. On Tuesday morning, he’ll kick off ABC’s Good Morning America Summer Concert Series, which you can attend for free by getting to New York City’s Central Park at 6 a.m. During the concert, Liam and his latest duet partner, J Balvin, will give their current hit “Familiar” its national TV debut.
Liam says “Familiar” is about “the idea of the chase, where you see somebody that you really like and you just want to get to know them more.”
As for when we might see Liam’s long-awaited solo album, he tells #legend he’s nearly done with it.
“It’s very collaborative and different,” he explains. “Everything is quite hitty, bouncy and a lot more singy-rap than anything else. I’m actually trying to put more of the ballads on, because I know people want to hear me sing a ballad as well. So it’s a really mixed bag — very eclectic.”
