ABC/Craig SjodinIn case you thought that Katy Perry’s gift of a literal olive branch to Taylor Swift was some kind of publicity stunt, think again.
“She was truly happily surprised and very impressed that Katy reached out,” a source tells People magazine about Katy’s gift, which also included a heartfelt letter saying she wanted to make amends. Taylor received the gift Tuesday, the same day her Reputation stadium tour began.
Says the source, “It was a great start to Taylor’s tour.”
While some critics have said that Taylor shouldn’t have shown Katy’s letter on her Instagram Story, the source says, “[The fact] that Taylor posted Katy’s letter wasn’t mean-spirited. She wanted her fans to know what is going on.”
The part of the letter which can be read says, among other things, “Hey Old Friend — I’ve been doing some reflecting on past miscommunications and hurt feelings between us.”
Since the olive branch and letter reveal, neither Taylor nor Katy has made further comment, but Katy tweeted on Thursday, “Isn’t it so wonderful that with every new day there is a new opportunity to see things differently and live more gracefully?”
Perhaps Katy will further comment on the situation this Sunday night on American Idol. Stay tuned.
