A 33-year-old Bronx man asked the pregnant star for an autograph outside the hotel at about 2:15 a.m. She declined, and when the man came closer to her, her bodyguards intervened. One allegedly pushed the man to the ground, while another allegedly kicked him in the head. Three men fled the scene, while the victim was taken to the hospital in stable condition.
It was a questionable end for a triumphant fashion night for the rapper, who stopped the show on the red carpet in a jewel-encrusted Jeremy Scott gown and headpiece that showed off her baby bump, and plenty of leg.
Also on the carpet, People magazine reports that Cardi and Nicki Minaj were seen chatting inside the event, despite the fact that Nicki seemed to throw shade at her fellow “Motorsport” collaborator on the red carpet.
Nicki told E!, “I’m the bad guy, and I wanted to make sure the bad guy was here.” She then added, “Album dropping June 15. It’s called Queen.”
Nicki’s description of herself as “the bad guy” was evidently a call back to an interview she did with Beats 1 when “Motorsport” first came out. Nicki said that Quavo asked her for permission to include Cardi on the song and she said yes — and then later, Cardi claimed that she didn’t hear Nicki’s verse.
Nicki said she was “hurt” because she felt that Cardi hadn’t been adequately grateful and shown her enough love, adding, “It’s entertaining to make Nicki seem like the bad guy.”
