Watch now: Christina Aguilera gets vulnerable, teases new song in YouTube video

RCA RecordsIn a new video posted to her YouTube page Friday, Christina Aguilera shows her more vulnerable side and explains the inspiration behind her upcoming album Liberation.

The clip, titled “Where’s Maria?,” shows Christina journaling and writing a message to her younger self. “Maria” is Christina’s middle name. One track on Liberation is called “Maria;” another is called “Searching for Maria.”

“I’m sorry to my own reflection, I’m sorry for putting you down,” she says in a voiceover. “I’m sorry I struggle accepting the beauty that lies in myself.”

Christina then begins talking about her past and gets emotional while recounting how her mom gave up her dreams to be with her father.

“Maybe in a way what I’m doing is also for her because she gave up everything for him,” she says. “I was very grounded at a very young age to know that I was never going to be weak to a man and that I didn’t want that fairy tale.”

When then see Christina singing a song, which is likely “Maria.”

“How was I supposed to know/That it would cost my soul/Nothing is free/I want to breathe/How am I supposed to face this lonely life I’ve created,” she sings a cappella.

“The inspiration for the album? To me, the purest of reason is to get back to that little girl who just wants to be inspired again by truth and by that sense of passion for music and singing and just feeling free and alive again,” she explains.

The video ends with a blunt message to her haters. “F*** it, this is who I am, and whoever’s not on board can suck my d***.”

Christina’s new album, Liberation, comes out June 15.
