ABC/Heidi GutmanThis past weekend marked the 10th anniversary of a very important piece of internet history: that picture of Pete Wentz and Bruno Mars.
If you’re unfamiliar with the photo — which has been a staple meme on Tumblr since it was first taken in 2008 — it features Wentz walking down the street. A then-unknown Mars, who happens to be on the same street, can be seen turning and staring at the Fall Out Boy bassist with what looks like an expression of surprise and recognition.
Wentz himself acknowledged the anniversary on his Twitter by posting a picture of the framed photo in his hotel room in Singapore. “Didn’t want you to think I forgot — can’t believe it’s been ten years,” he wrote in the caption.
Speaking about the photo to NYMag.com in 2016, Wentz said, “What an odd picture. I think specifically because it’s dated but also how it almost seems posed due to everyone’s faces and demeanor.”
Almost two years to the day after the photo was taken, Bruno scored his first #1 hit with “Nothin’ on You,” a collaboration with rapper B.o.B.
In addition to celebrating the 10th anniversary of his meme, Wentz is currently on tour in Asia with Fall Out Boy in support of their new album, M A N I A.
