ABC/Randy HolmesImagine Dragons‘ video for the band’s new single “Next to Me” is nothing if not ambitious. The visual is a cinematic, 11-minute mini-movie, and you can watch it now on YouTube.
Directed by Mark Pellington, the “Next to Me” video stars frontman Dan Reynolds as Reynold, a man condemned to death row. His real-life wife Aja Volkman plays his wife in the film, while the other three Imagine Dragons members also make brief appearances.
“I wrote this song about the strains of the relationships in my own life and the beauty of enduring love,” says Reynolds in a statement. “After late night conversations with Mark Pellington about life and his passion behind his vision for the film, we knew we wanted to take the journey with him.”
“Next to Me” was released last February, and was belatedly added to the track list for ID’s 2017 album, Evolve.
Meanwhile, the Evolve single “Whatever It Takes” has reached number one on Billboard‘s Alternative Songs chart. Evolve has now spawned three number-one singles on Alternative Songs, following “Believer” and “Thunder.” It’s the first album to achieve that feat since Kings of Leon‘s 2008 Only By the Night generated number-one Alternative Songs hits with “Sex on Fire,” “Use Somebody” and “Notion.”
Imagine Dragons will kick off a U.S. tour in support of Evolve June 5 in Hartford, Connecticut.
