Will Heath/NBCG-Eazy joined Halsey this past weekend on Saturday Night Live for a steamy rendition of their hit duet “Him & I.” The two of them have performed the song live many times together, but as G-Eazy tells ABC Radio, it’s always different.
“You definitely discover new things,” he says. “Both of us have a different kind of energy, or attitude, or whatever you wanna call it.” He laughs, “It’s interesting dating your co-worker, and working together with them in new ways every single time.”
While working with someone you’re also dating doesn’t always end well, G-Eazy says that because he and Halsey are similar, it was easy for them to collaborate on the song.
“We both are pretty intense, we both are a little bit crazy,” he tells ABC Radio. “And that energy that you hear in the song is the energy that was there when we were bouncing ideas off each other — y’know, as we’re writing it, as we’re making it, as we’re putting it together.”
And, according to G-Eazy, both he and Halsey have the same approach to recording.
“When an idea’s alive, we have to go in and record it right there, because you might miss it,” he says. “And that excitement of an idea coming to life is a really cool thing that we both share.”
G-Eazy will kick off a tour in support of his album The Beautiful & Damned next month, and he’s hinted that Halsey may pop up on a few dates so they can perform “Him & I” together live.
