In 2018, Daya plans to “not work as much,” and listen to her “inner voice”

Interscope RecordsFor Daya, 2017 was a “whirlwind”…which is why she’s promised herself she going to try to relax in 2018.

As the “Hide Away” singer notes on Twitter, last year saw her launch her first headlining tour, which included a sellout date in the same venue in her Pittsburgh hometown where she used to see concerts as a kid.  She also won her first Grammy, for her Chainsmokers collab “Don’t Let Me Down,” and signed a major label record deal.

In addition, Daya released two new songs — including the track “New” — toured in several new countries, marched in the Women’s March, saw many of her idols perform live, and even moved into her first house.  As the 19-year-old singer wrote on Twitter, “[Baby] girl is growin upppp.”

Still, all that made for an exhausting year, which is why Daya tells ABC Radio that her resolution for 2018 is “to relax, to not work as much.”  She laughs, “I need that for myself. For my mental being!”

As for the biggest lesson the last 12 months have taught her, the “Sit Still Look Pretty” star says, “I think just to listen to myself. I think that it took me a really long time to figure that out, but that’s a really powerful thing, once you can listen to your inner voice.”

Daya’s hopes for 2018, meanwhile, include her desire to see “more behind-the-scenes females gaining traction in the pop space.”  She wrote on Twitter, “Some of my best songs…have come out of sessions with female writers or female producers, so it only make sense that we are more fairly included and acknowledged.”
