Why Bebe Rexha grew up watching “New Year's Rockin' Eve”: “My parents were not gonna bring us to the club!”

ABC/Matt BrownMany of the stars appearing on Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest each year grew up watching the show as kids — not only because it featured the biggest stars of the day, but because it gave their parents a family-friendly option for New Year’s Eve.  At least, that was the case for Bebe Rexha.

“I watched actually every [year], because my parents were not gonna bring us to the club or anything like that!” she laughs. “We would sit around the TV and we would invite my grandma over and we would buy those cheap like New Year’s hats. And we watched Ryan, but we also watched Dick Clark do it, so it’s a really big thing for me and my family.”

Bebe will join the likes of Kelly Clarkson, Portugal. The Man, Charlie Puth, Zedd, Halsey, G-Eazy, Hailee Steinfeld and Shawn Mendes on the Hollywood portion of New Year’s Rockin’ Eve.  But Bebe says generally, she prefers to be a homebody that night.

“I prefer to stay home with my dog and my mom and my dad and eat bad food all day,” she laughs.

Bebe also makes New Year’s resolutions, but she says she makes sure they’re not impossible to keep.

“I feel like, when it’s so intense, when it’s, like, ‘I have to go to the gym ten times,’ or ‘I have to lose this much weight,’ I think it’s too harsh, y’know?  Too hard,” the “Meant to Be” singer explains.

So what’s her non-harsh resolution for 2018?

“Balance,” she reveals. “And just trying to see my family more, and work, and have a good balance with that.”

Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest airs starting at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
