ABC/Paula LoboProsecutors in Washington State reportedly are dropping a case against Nelly in which he had been accused of rape.
TMZ reports that the King County Prosecuting Attorney’s office will not go forward with the case after the alleged victim declined to cooperate.
Back in October, the accuser’s lawyer posted a letter to her website saying that the woman, whom the attorney described as a 21-year-old college student, told the Auburn, Washington Police Department and the King County Prosecuting Attorney’s office to “put a halt to the criminal investigation of Cornell Haynes, Jr. (aka Nelly)” and that “she will not testify further in a criminal proceeding against him.”
At the time, Nelly’s attorney said in a statement to ABC News, “This is welcome news, even though Nelly was one hundred percent sure he would be vindicated. This is simply not enough. Her reckless accusation, once investigated thoroughly, was exposed for what it was: a fabrication. A fabrication that has caused Nelly and his family to suffer emotionally and financially.”
The woman claimed that Nelly assaulted her on a tour bus after his concert in Auburn, just south of Seattle. He was taken into custody, booked and released without being charged.
