ABC/Randy HolmesAriana Grande and “Despacito” top the music-related categories of Google’s Year in Search 2017, which rounds up what was trending on the search engine throughout the year.
The reason Ariana topped searches for musicians in 2017 is, unfortunately, because of the bombing that took place in May outside her concert in Manchester, U.K. That can be seen by looking at a graph of searches for her name, which peaked from May 21 to May 27.
The bombing took place May 22. Searches peaked again on June 4, the day of One Love Manchester, the concert Ariana organized as a benefit for the victims and their families.
The rest of the most-searched musicians of 2017 were, in order, Linkin Park, Lady Gaga, Mariah Carey, Ed Sheeran, Travis Scott, Kendrick Lamar, Lil Pump, Katy Perry, and Cardi B.
As for the most-searched songs and lyrics, “Despacito” topped Google’s chart, most likely because people wanted to find out what Luis Fonsi was actually saying in the Spanish-language hit, and because it was the year’s longest-running #1, staying on top for 16 weeks.
Here are the rest of the most searched-for songs and lyrics of 2017:
2. “Shape of You,” Ed Sheeran
3. “Perfect,” Ed Sheeran
4. “Havana,” Camila Cabello
5. “Look What You Made Me Do,” Taylor Swift
6. “HUMBLE.,” Kendrick Lamar
7. “Versace on the Floor,” Bruno Mars
8. “Closer,” The Chainsmokers/Halsey
9. “Bad and Boujee,” Migos
10. “Rockstar,” Post Malone/21 Savage
Of note, searches for “Perfect” peaked the first week of December, after it was released as a duet with Beyoncé. Also, searches for “Look What You Made Me Do” peaked — not after the release of the song, but after the release of the video August 27.
