Camila Cabello feels “very, very lucky” that fans have embraced her as a solo artist

John Shearer/Getty Images via ABCWhen an artist leaves a successful group, it’s not always a guarantee that the music they make as a solo artist will be accepted.  Thankfully, Camila Cabello hasn’t had that problem: her post-Fifth Harmony songs have been embraced by fans — especially “Havana,” which has reached #2 in the U.S. and has been #1 for five weeks in the U.K.   Camila says she took a chance going solo…and it paid off.

“Oh my God, it feels amazing!” she told ABC Radio about her solo success at the Billboard Women in Music 2017 gala. “I mean, for me, my goal is always just to make music that I love and that I’m passionate about.”

“And I know that a lot of the times it’s hard, you know?”  she added. “You never know if people are gonna connect with it.  But you choose to take that risk, and so I chose to take that risk, and I’m just very, very lucky that people did.”

Camila is set to release her debut album in 2018.
