Courtesy YouTubeThe music competition series Best.Cover.Ever., hosted by Ludacris, launches today on YouTube with three episodes focusing on Demi Lovato, Katy Perry and Jason Derulo. In each episode, Demi, Katy and Jason will judge cover versions of their hits created by aspiring artists from around the world, and pick a winner, who will then get to duet with them. Going through all the submissions, Demi tells ABC Radio, was “really cool.”
On Demi’s episode, musicians offer versions of her hit “Confident,” performed in pretty much every style of music you can imagine, from solo females to all-male bands. Demi narrows them down to two finalists: an R&B vocal group called AHMIR, and a Nashville band called Anthem Lights. You have to watch the episode to find out who wins.
Demi says of fans covering her songs on YouTube, “It was an honor!”
“You know, it’s so cool, I remember covering other people’s songs, and knowing that people loved my song enough to cover it feels awesome,” she tells ABC Radio.
These days, Demi says she likes to cover “Natural Woman” by Aretha Franklin, but in the past, she says she often covered Lil’ Wayne’s “How to Love.”
Each Monday from now through December 21, additional episodes of Best.Cover.Ever. will premiere. Next week, it’s Charlie Puth and the Backstreet Boys. December 4, it’s Flo Rida and Nicky Jam. On December 14, it’s Bebe Rexha and on December 21, it’s DNCE and Keith Urban.
