Sam Smith “massively” wants to be a dad; new album tops U.K. chart

Ruven AfanadorSam Smith is currently in a relationship with actor Brandon Flynn, but regardless of whether that romance lead to marriage, Sam says he’s dying to start a family one day.

Asked by the U.K. tabloid The Sun if he’d like to be a dad, Sam says, “Massively, yeah, it’s like, my life plan. I want kids so bad. I just feel like it’s nature’s way of reminding you that it’s not about you. It makes you not selfish.”

Sam adds that in addition to having a child via a surrogate, he’d also like to adopt.

“I think I might do both,” he reveals, noting that it was a trip he took to the Middle East with the charity War Child that convinced him. “When I went to Iraq to the [refugee] camps, it made me want to adopt,” he explains.

Sam will be a bit too busy to have children in the near future, though: his world tour gets underway in March, and before that, he has appearances scheduled for New York, Los Angeles and Sydney, Australia.

In other Sam news, his new sophomore album, The Thrill of it All, has debuted at #1 in his native U.K.  His debut In the Lonely Hour also hit #1 on that chart.

In a statement, Sam told the U.K.’s Official Charts Company, “My heart is so full and happy with this news. Thank you to every single person who has got The Thrill Of It All — this is a dream come true for me, thank you.”
